How to Find the Best Deal on a Keystone Ski Vacation Package

With the U.S. Economy in a down slide this ski season, now is the best time ever to find great discount deals on a Keystone ski vacation package. The fact is that you will find far fewer people on the slopes this season then there ever has been before.

This means that every thing else including the world class dining establishments that Colorado is known for have far fewer people also. All of this adds up to great deals that are now being offered by Keystone ski vacation packages to bring in badly needed winter recreationers.

Of course, the place to look is on the Internet but you have to know what to look for when you are doing your own searching. Items that are now regularly being offered by many Keystone ski lodges are free or discount air fare, free airport pick-up, complimentary drinks and meals, as well as great discounts on rentals including free and discount lift tickets.

However; no matter how shrewed a negotiator you may be, often times your local travel agent will be able to get an even better deal for you because they deal in volume. Also, often time travel agencies will sniff out resorts that are having a high vacancy rate and buy up package deals and market them.

Either way you do it, now is the time to ski and snowboard in the winter wonderland that Colorado is. Also, if you haven't heard, Colorado is a known center for working world class artist that offer their creations in some of the finest galleries that you will find anywhere and that certainly applies if you have an eye for wildlife art. So now is the time to check your schedule and find a place in it
to treat yourself and any friends and loved ones that you bring along to new memories to last a lifetime at a Keystone ski vacation package.

Family Camping and Safety - 12 Tips for a Safer Camping Trip

As airplane fares and hotels become more and more expensive, many families are turning to camping for their vacations and short jaunts away from home and the crazy demands of modern living. Yet, while camping can be fun for the whole family and indeed children of all ages should participate, there are some guidelines to keep in mind when the family camps together.

1. When choosing a campsite, choose one far away from the temptations of water. It is never advisable to camp on the beach with children. Campgrounds with swimming pools, man-made lakes and bodies of water should be should be selected for areas that are sufficiently far enough away from the water.

2. Babies should be kept in playpens or some type of safe enclosure. Because children wander, there are so many dangers outside for them to avoid. Also, make sure the fenced-in area is in the shade so the child does not suffer from heat stroke or sunburn.

3. When boiling water on the camp stove or open fire pit, ensure that all children are away from the cooking area. The cooking area must be out-of-bounds for playing and horsing around. Do not leave things dangling from the table or area, which encourages small children to investigate and pull the item down, splashing the boiling pot on themselves.

4. Children should be supervised when chopping wood and using axes, knives or any other dangerous or sharp object. One would assume that older children rather than small children would use these items but still with adult supervision.

5. Children should wear hats to protect their heads from the sun and sun block covered on their whole bodies. Apply the sunscreen before dressing them so that all parts of the body are covered.

6. Adequately dress and monitor smaller children who cannot swat mosquitoes and flies so that they are not bitten needlessly resulting in their skin becoming red and inflamed. The bites will be very painful to their sensitive skin.

7. Explain to children not to eat the plants or berries. Be especially cautious of young children as babies put everything into their mouths. Another reason to keep them safely confined to a playpen.

8. Never leave children by the campfire alone. They should be supervised when roasting marshmallows and hotdogs. In the evening when sitting around the campfire, make them sit back far enough so as not to be hit by flying embers.

9. Carry a first aid and keep it handy.

10. When using kerosene lamps and heaters in tents, make sure they are not just sitting on the floor. They will be easily knocked over burning the child and taking everything up in flames. Also, if a child does not tip them over but merely touches them, they will be very hot on the skin.

11. Because of the campground's informal surroundings, it is very easy for children to forget about cars and other hazards. They must learn to stay off the road and not dash away into the path of a vehicle. Even older children must have boundaries and should be made to stay within a certain area so they do not become lost.

12. Keep the baby's formula well refrigerated if in a trailer but if tent camping, keep it in a cooler on ice. Bring water from home for the baby and smaller children, as it may be more difficult for them to become accustomed to the new water.

Fed Proposal Threatens 10 Million Cruise Passengers with a Rescheduling Nightmare

The Cruise Lines International Association warns that about 10 million cruise vacationers in the United States are threatened with having their cruises re-scheduled or outright canceled unless a new federal proposal is lifted.

A new interpretation of an 1866 maritime law is being proposed by the Federal Governments Homeland Security Agency (Customs and Border Protection Agency) aimed at Cruise Lines Serving the Hawaiian Cruise Market but effects operations at most West Coast U.S. Ports used by the Cruise Industry. The Proposal's implementation would severely limit the options available for most Hawaiian Cruise Line Operators.

An 1886 maritime law requires foreign registered ships to call on at least to one foreign port for 48 hours if they stop at two U.S. ports. The American Association of Port Authorities said money spent on cruise facilities would be put to waste if the federal government changes the rules.

Coupled with the recent changes in the Passport Rules for reentry into the U.S. by her own citizens these types of Federal efforts seem counter productive to the large investments by U.S. Port Authorities to attract more Cruise Vacation Tourist with upgrades to their facilities!

With the explosion of the Cruise Industry over the past 10 years one has to wonder why any proposal that cuts into U.S. Destinations would be tolerated. The loss of tourist dollars for this country shouldn't be the result of any government action. The Federal Government needs to make this the best possible situation for Vacation Cruisers and encourage Tourism and the accompanied dollars that follow not engage in these kind of senseless actions.

Self Catering Cottages - Number One Holiday Destination Around UK

One of the inventions of modern times that is fast gaining popularity around the world are self catering cottages. Those magnificent cottages which are laden with all types of comfort and luxury and are just the right type of holiday destination to spend their vacations. That they can be availed at an incredibly low price is another reason why so many people are falling for them and elevating it to the position of the most sought after holiday destination bypassing such tried and tested places like hotels and rest houses.

Another reason that makes these cottages so well liked is the freedom that people get to enjoy and make their stay as comfortable as they want. Such is the freedom granted here that guests are even allowed to cook their own meal here. Such a provision win people specially families with small kids and cajoles them to come here again and again.

Self catering cottages are also on top of the wish list of business units who find them to be just perfect for arranging their official get togethers as well as team building exercises. A stay here is also utilised by business units to honour their most deserving employees.

With the way life is getting hectic it really shouldn't surprise anyone if more and more people take to vacations to escape from the grind of tyrannical schedule of their professional lives. Located in the backdrop of countryside they welcome the tourists with open arms and expose them to a few days of sheer bliss. To a harassed professional it is just the tonic he needed to recharge his batteries to take on life with new found energy and vigour. No wonder self catering cottages are getting popular with every passing day and this liking is only going to enhance in times to come.

Visiting Miami?

When your family planned your vacation, chances are good that you put a great deal of thought into the dates that you would travel, the location that you would be traveling to and where you would be staying once you arrived. Regardless of when you will be traveling, you'll find that one of the many villa rentals in Florida makes an ideal place to stay - especially if you are staying on the East Coast of Florida in Miami.

Many will find that the first thing that they intend to experience in Miami is one of the area's many beaches. Those who enjoy taking a jog will find that Bal Harbour Beach offers a shaded jogging path along with sandy spots and beautiful waves. Those who enjoy lighthouses will want to visit Bill Baggs State Recreation Area in nearby Key Biscayne. Others will choose the beaches they visit based on nearby restaurants or cafes, shopping or other attractions.

Others will choose to enjoy the water in a different sort of way with a visit to the Miami Seaquarium. There, you won't only be able to swim, surf or enjoy the shore, you'll also be able to take time to swim with the dolphins. While you are there, you'll also have the opportunity to watch a killer whale show, dolphin shows and sea lion shows. If that's not enough for you, you will find that you can learn more about sharks, manatees, sea turtles, alligators and other Florida wildlife.

For those looking for an even more wild adventure during the time they spend away from their Florida villas, plenty is to be found with a visit to the Miami Metro Zoo. There you will have the chance to view tiger, African lions, meerkats, gazelle, giraffe, elephant, zebra, primates and a number of different species of birds.

Bird lovers will also want to be sure to schedule in a visit to Parrot Jungle and Jungle Island. Visitors there will have a chance to see macaw and other birds. They will also have the chance to see shows including the Winged Wonders Shows in the Parrot Bowl as well as shows that let visitors get up close to other park animals and reptiles.

Of course, not all of Miami's adventure involves wild animals or exploring the beach. Those looking for a cultural experience will be able to find a wide range of options - from the art and culture at The Vizcaya Museum and Gardens to the Cuban culture of Miami's Little Havana.

Miami Beach is famous for its Art Deco district and the designer shops of Collins Avenue and Lincoln Road. Enjoy a day exploring the historic architecture, shop till you drop, then have lunch in an elegant pavement cafe. At the end of the day, night owls who aren't ready to head back to their Florida holiday villas will find countless nightclubs, bars and hot spots where they can dance the night away enjoying all that Miami has to offer.

Miami has far more to offer than beaches and watersports. Unlike areas such as Orlando where much of the activity centers around famous theme parks, you'll find that Miami is a city, rich with culture and tradition. From one of the many luxury Florida villas with pools available to rent, you'll be able to enjoy it all.

Captain Cook, Midshipman Hornblower and Endeavour

Visitors to Whitby undoubtedly enjoy the fine views, the great food, the gothic connection and the historic Yards that seem hidden around every corner of this ancient town. However, I wonder if tourists even suspect that down one of these Yards, several centuries ago, one man was learning skills that would eventually change the map of the world...

Yorkshire's most famous seafarer is undoubtedly Captain James Cook, whose best-known achievement was the discovery of Australia. As a teenager, he was apprenticed to a Whitby shipowner, John Walker, in whose house his apprentices lived when not serving at sea on Walker's colliers (coal ships).

Cook's most famous ship, the Endeavour, was built in a Whitby shipyard, and today Cook's achievements are recognised by the Captain Cook Memorial Museum, which is located in Grape Street, in the house Cook lived in as an apprentice.

A more tangible reminder of Cook's achievements can often be found in Whitby's harbour, particularly during the winter. The Grand Turk is a replica of an 18th century warship - a man o' war. Although she was built in Turkey, her home port is Whitby and it is here that she returns each winter. While in Whitby, the Grand Turk is open to the public each day, and you may find you recognise her - she has proved something of a media star since her launch in 1997, and perhaps most famously appeared as the frigate "HMS Indefatigable", in the Hornblower TV series.

If you haven't explored the historic old town of Whitby, you're missing out on a real treat. What else lies hidden in its maze of Yards and tumbling red roofs, I wonder?

Walking In The Footsteps of Dinosaurs (and Smugglers)

Although the moors are rich with attractions, just exploring the coast around Whitby can be enough to occupy a whole holiday. Whether you have an interest in fossils, would like to see if you can find any of your own Whitby Jet, or would simply like to see some more of the small villages so unique to this part of North Yorkshire, Whitby makes an ideal starting point.

Robin Hood's Bay

Perhaps the best-known of the villages near to Whitby is Robin Hood's Bay. Nestled at the bottom of a very steep hill and surrounded by vertical cliffs, Robin Hood's Bay is one of the most charismatic and remote settlements on the Yorkshire coast.

First mentioned in 1536, Robin Hood's Bay was for many years an exceptionally self-contained and isolated fishing village, whose residents were almost completely self-sufficient. However, in the 17th and 18th centuries at least some residents must have had links further afield - as Robin Hood's Bay became infamous as the most active smuggling centre on the North Yorkshire coast.

Helped by their remote location and by the inhospitable moorland which surround their village, the fishermen of Robin Hood's Bay carried on a determined trade in illicit goods, often resulting in pitched battles with the local excise men - such were the potential profits of smuggling.

Virtually the whole community was behind the free traders' efforts, and it is said that contraband could pass from the bottom of the village to the top without leaving the houses, whose network of secret passages and storage rooms made life extremely difficult for Her Majesty's enforcement officers.

Eventually changes in duty levels made smuggling less attractive, and the introduction of motorised fishing boats made the Bay's small sailing cobles less economically-viable. The onset of World War I meant that many men left the Bay, and it proved to be the beginning of a period of decline for the area. Since then, however, tourism in the North Yorkshire Moors has continued to grow, and this has led to the purchase and sympathetic restoration of many of the Bay's old cottages as holiday lets.

Today, Robin Hood's Bay is a thriving small community, favoured by artists and writers and extremely popular as a holiday destination.

Cool People Vacation In Verbier

The snow Dorados lure the wealthy and famous to the Swiss mountains. Instead of
champagne climate in St. Moritz or Caviar pistes in Gstaad, the young stars rather prefer to
own their own ski lift in Verbier.

Especially young, cool stars are attracted to the Valais village of barely 2,000 inhabitants. For
example, the English singer James Blunt has already relocated to the community and wants
to have a chalet built. As a welcome present, the famed British pop star could baptize a chair
lift in his name. Not long ago, Pierre Casiraghi (21), son of princess Caroline of Monaco spent
a few hot days in the snow-covered mountain world of Verbier.

Three years ago Victoria Beckham (34) celebrated with the whole family her 30th birthday in
the Valais resort. Quite often seen on the pistes of Verbier is actor Hughes Grant (48). Last
year, the hot-swarmed Briton really enjoyed the good snow conditions in the Valais
mountains. A huge fan of this fine resort and of Switzerland in general is actrice Juliette
Binoche (44). The elegant French woman likes the largest ski resort in Europe because it is
close to the Swiss Riviera and of course France, her native country. To the regular guests
belong Sarah Ferguson (48), Duchess of York, alias Fergie, with her daughters Beatrice (19)
and Eugenie (17).

So why is Verbier so attractive? One reason is that the community is very discreet. The
guests come to spend their vacation in privacy and the locals of the village respect that. They
want tranquility and restraint in one of the most beautiful ski resort of Switzerland.
And what is the wealthy doing during the day when also Heli-skiing has become boring? He is
training Polo. I don't think that a more expensive sport was discovered yet. However, the
tournaments played there are not as exclusive as is the case in St. Moritz. Anybody can
participate if you can ride a horse, says Yves Luginbühl.

Later, usually after midnight the people visit the luxury clubs. In the "Farm Club", a beer costs
about 20 Swiss francs (US$ 16). A little more freely is the Coco-Club where you see at times
multi-billionaire Richard Branson. He usually orders a specially prepared cocktail served in a
unusually made ice culture in the form of a Swiss chalet. The price is only 10,000 Swiss
francs. A bit cheaper is a bottle of champagne of the brand "Dom Perignon" (from 1995) for
about 2,000 Swiss francs.

It is somewhat incredible to see all the action in a small village with over a 100 bars and
restaurants. It may not be like downtown London or New York. However, I am sure that you aren't getting bored either. Simply said: Verbier is hip and cool! While the super wealthy are walking on the frozen lake of St. Moritz, (GR) and the old stars are skiing slowly and prudently over the pistes of Gstaad (BE) the guests in Verbier are taking everything a bit more relaxing. It is the new rising stars of the Swiss ski resorts.

What You Should Know Before Entering the Lion's Den of Vacation Ownership-Timeshare Presentations

We have all seen the pop up ads that seem to scream out "Congratulations....you are today's lucky recipient of a 5 day/4 night Luxury Cancun Vacation or a Caribbean Dream Cruise..." Or you may have received that automated phone call informing you that you have won that all inclusive vacation in Florida. Before you impulsively click on the box or call that 1-800 number you need to realize that these are promotions to solicit sales of either a timeshare or vacation ownership package.

We are inundated daily with telemarketers, pop up ads, unsolicited e-mails and fliers in the mail. Most of the time we either delete them from our computer or throw them out.

However, think about it for a moment. Wouldn't you like to go on that cruise or lay around at some posh resort soaking in the sun? You may want to reconsider for a moment that at $199 that cruise does seem appealing, right? The cost does not include your flights, taxes and other costs to take this vacation, but still you can get a good deal and have a great time at a fraction of the cost you would spend if you booked the vacation or cruise through an online travel agency. Here are a few tips that will help you escape unscathed as you enter the Lion's Den of Timeshare and Vacation Ownership Presentations.

The first thing you need to do as a couple is to ask yourselves some pertinent questions about what you plan to do and where to go for the next five to ten years. Dream a little and be adventuresome with your ideas. Most important, be honest and realistic. If you like to camp, boat, go on tours, ski, go on safaris, etc. as part of your vacation mix, then staying at a resort and laying on a beach in the sun may seem a bit boring, and not part of your lifestyle. Or you may like to stay at a resort once every two years instead of every year, and go camping, fishing or hiking on the alternate years. It is up to you to formulate a vacation plan that suits you best and stick with it. Calculate what you approximately spend on your vacation each year. You may have kept your charge card receipts from previous years. Get a rough estimate on travel, food, lodging and special events. This is important to know as you will be asked what you typically spend on your vacation each year. Armed with those figures head of time will help you make and informed decision whether a timeshare or vacation ownership package is a wise choice for you or not.

Secondly, because timeshares and vacation ownership properties can be willed to your children, consider what your children enjoy doing on their vacations. Your son or daughter may prefer to go white water rafting on the Colorado River, hike the Chilkoot trail in the Yukon or rough it in India rather than soak up rays in Cancun, Mexico. Then again, they may have similar interests to you and would love to enjoy a week in a resort. Discuss your intentions with your children before you go on your trip, rather than surprise them with the news that you had purchased a timeshare package, after you get back.

Once you get to your destination you will check into the ubiquitous 'Welcome Center'. This is the hub of the Lion's Den of Timeshare/Vacation Ownership sales presentations. It is here that you register for your presentation and pick up your room keys. You may be required to leave a deposit or credit card imprint. This is to ensure that you will show up for the presentation meeting. Don't worry, you will get your money back after the presentation and they most likely will give you a gift as an incentive for attending the presentation, such as an additional night's stay, theme part tickets, clothing, wine or money.

The next day at the Welcome Center you will be ushered to a waiting area to sit with dozens of other tourists. Coffee, doughnuts and other goodies will be served while you wait for your presenter to come and get you.

Once you meet your presenter it is imperative that you confirm the time limit on the presentation. If the company has stated that the presentation will take no more than 90 minutes, then establish that you will allow an additional half hour to run overtime. That is fair. It is very easy to get bogged down in three or four hour presentations or longer. Be firm, but polite and stick by your guns but letting the presenter know how much time they have left.

After the initial interview you will be taken on a tour of a typical two or three bedroom unit. You will be pleasantly surprised by the quality of the units. Timeshares have come a long way from what they were even ten years ago. The figures will be scribbled on a sheet of lined foolscap paper. The deal for today, they will say will include the first year of maintenance fees which includes the first year membership in one of the two major timeshare trading companies, either II (Interval International) or RCI (Resorts Condominiums International). You will be left alone to discuss the proposal. If you have done your homework you will know if this deal is for you, but wait, there will be other deals.

The Salesperson will return and if the two of you have decided that the deal is not for you, the salesperson will bring the boss to reiterate the deal. Then they will offer you a one bedroom unit with perhaps the same options as the first deal. You will be left alone a second time to talk it over. If you still have decided against the proposal, then a third option is offered, most likely a studio unit (bedroom, kitchen and eating area in one room). They will apply pressure for you to make a decision to buy. Again, if the proposal is still not right for you and your family, go with your gut feeling and say no. However, if this is the unit you want and it is in the resort community you prefer, and meets your financial terms, then go for it.

Before you make your decision, I recommend that you do a lot of research by checking out timeshares and vacation ownership properties on the internet. You will discover that prices may vary depending on the quality of the units being offered and the resort location. If you and your family like theme parks, then purchasing a unit near Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World, etc. may be your best bet. While others may be more interested in purchasing a timeshare near wonderful golf courses, or world class ski resorts. Take your time before you choose your unit and consult others who have purchased a unit in a community you are considering. Find out if they like their unit and the recreational facilities and other amenities in their community. If they offer positive feedback then you may consider purchasing a property.

For comparison here are some typical figures the salesperson may get thrown at you. For a two-bedroom unit with two weeks of regular time each year and two additional bonus weeks added when purchasing the unit may sell for $15,000 with legal closing costs of $525 and $150 in taxes. The maintenance costs which covers property upkeep, insurance, taxes and refurbishing costs, new appliances, etc. are $500 per year. Resort Condominiums International (RCI) or Interval International (II) can trade your week at your resort for another week at another resort from over 5000 resorts combined around the world. Depending whether you have purchased a peak season high demand week (red), mid season (white for RCI or yellow/amber for II) or low demand (blue for RCI or green for II), your annual fees may be approximately $90 per year. For a two-bedroom unit for two weeks (one week added during the purchase year) every second year (E.O.Y.) was selling for about $10,000 with $350 in closing costs, $500 E.O.Y. maintenance costs and $150 E.O.Y. for taxes. These figures are an approximation and are provided to offer you some insight as to what these units cost and maintain. I urge you to check out some websites and compare their unit costs.

Similar to any important financial decision you make, get the best terms when you buy. Your decision to buy a timeshare or vacation ownership property can affect you and your family well into the future. If you decide to sell your unit several years down the road, you may find that will be selling your unit at a loss, and may not even recoup your initial investment. From my experience I have found that buying a timeshare or vacation ownership property should not be considered as a money making investment, but rather as an investment in your planned future quality vacation time. Honestly, this investment has far greater value beyond its' 'real estate value.'

To buy or not to buy, the decision is ultimately yours to make. When you make that phone call or click that mouse to try one on for size, at least you will get a taste of what it is like to experience the timeshare or vacation ownership lifestyle. Take the plunge, try it on for size.

Algarve

A few years ago I went on holiday to the Algarve, Albufeira no less – What a lovely laid back tourist spot, fishing boats on the beaches, fishermen mending their nets talking about the catch of the day, idyllic. The scenes have most likely unchanged since the town was nearly all destroyed in an earthquake in 1755. It was merely a fishing village then.

We spent some of the long balmy days on the beaches, enjoying the water sports and getting a tan whilst the nights were spent dining on local cuisine. – fantastic! To get away from the beaten track we went inland to cooler areas and walked amongst the flora the region has to offer, such as almond trees, fig trees, pines and orange-trees. It was great to see the locals in the villages going about their traditonal living. We were made to feel very welcome.

However that was quite a few years ago, has the area changed much? Today Albufeira has a population approaching 40,000 residents with the number of tourists visiting the Algarve swelling considerably also. In fact during 2007 the tourist population increased between 5 to 6%. The largest increases being in golf holidays. The tourism portfolio also includes activities focused on eco-tourism, and culture,

If you wish to rent a really nice holiday property in the Algarve then visit our site where you will in access of 300 properties to choose from.

If golf is your thing book your tee times online

What about the locals today? Certainly the local have not changed in there friendly ways towards tourists in general and welcome the increased income it generates. However they do expect tourist to be polite. They will help you with any questions you have and most shopkeepers speak English.

Modern Albufeira changes in the late afternoons as the sun sets giving it a unique and vibrant character. There still remains a vast amount of restaurants, bars and clubs catering for all tastes and pockets.

The good beaches remain of course with a fine selection both east and west of the town. Praia de Balaia, Praia de Castelo, Praia de Falésia, Praia de Galé, de Olhos d’Agua, Praia de Maria Luisa, and Praia de São Rafael, being the best ones.

There are two ways to make your vacation in India more memorable. One is to camp in the very midst of nature and experience nature in its finest elements. But this is strenuous and only the adventurous can venture forth to do so. For the tourists who wants a perfect tryst with nature but at the same time can't do without the luxury factor there are star category hotels and resorts available. Though we unanimously voice the opinion that nature's bounty is unfailingly superior to anything manmade Wildlife Resorts in India are so constructed that on the one hand you have a luxurious hearth complete with dining facilities and other services and on the other you can enjoy the call of the wild. Most of these Wildlife Resorts in India are located in or at the vicinity of the Wildlife Reserves or sanctuaries.

Some of the well known Wildlife Resorts in India are located in the precincts of Corbett National Park, Bandhavgarh National Park, Ranthambore National Park, Kaziranga National Park, Gir Wildlife Sanctuary, Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, Sariska and Nagarhole. An old world and mysterious charm engulfs these resorts, more so because of the fear of the unknown. The rhythmical beat of the drum of the tribal population living nearby the resorts adds to the unknown factor. The sweet smell of the mahua flower or the jui infuses the whole air with something but you can't exactly point out what. The beauty of the surrounding area further accentuates the romantic feeling.

Some of the Wildlife Resorts in India are luxuriously appointed and provides you much more than you could expect at such a tranquil locale. With well appointed rooms, restaurants and bar, fancy swimming pool and gymnasium, they are a welcome retreat even to the most discerning of guests. Some of the resorts which are located inside the very precincts of the Reserve or sanctuary provides you night safari too or you can also watch the wild animals from the maacha when they come in search of water or food. However some of the reserves purposely don't have Wildlife Resorts inside the precincts as that would disturb the animals or pollute the environment. Wildlife activists believe that animals are afraid of noise and that disturbs their sense of peace. So next time you visit a reserve maintain silence.

Some of these Wildlife Resorts in India arrange for tribal dances from the nearby villages. This offers you much of the recreation and entertainment after a strenuous jungle safari. Most of these resorts also arranges for safaris. The expert guide will tell you exactly what to do and what not to while entering the premises of the reserves. Permits are needed to enter these resorts. You might as well invest on a sturdy pair of boots if you are visiting during the monsoon. Mosquito repellent also comes to good use in most of the cases.

A Brief History of New Zealand

Apart from being considered one of the most beautiful countries in the world, New Zealand also has the distinction of being one of the youngest. It was the last major land mass to be discovered by Europeans, and today, this fascinating and unspoiled country offers many reminders of its Maori and Colonial history.

The earliest known settlers in the two islands were the seafaring Maori, who arrived sometime between 1000 and 1300 AD, although some evidence suggests they were there earlier. The Maoris named the new land Aotearoa, meaning "Land of the Long White Cloud", a name that still seems appropriate today.

The Maoris survived by hunting and farming and later by trading with the European settlers. Today, New Zealand boasts several places where you can still experience several fascinating glimpses into the Maori's way of life and Maori culture is still an important part of what has become an increasingly multicultural society.

The Maoris were skilled fishermen, as well as expert sailors. One of their traditions was to throw back the first fish caught as a way of thanking the sea god for the catch - a tradition that continues today. They were also adept at hunting the world's largest bird, the Moa, and harvesting and eating vegetables and potatoes.

One of the best places to gain an insight into their culture is the restored Maori village at Tamaki, which offers the chance to watch traditional singing, dancing and to purchase hand made crafts. The highlight of your visit may be the opportunity to sample a typical Maori meal, prepared the same way as it has been for centuries - cooked for several hours on hot stones buried under the ground.

The Dutch were the first Europeans to discover the two islands, naming them Nieuw Zeeland, after the Dutch province of the same name. The explorer Abel Tasman first sighted the land in 1642 - although the first visit was not a success as there was fighting between the Maoris and the Dutch. Tasman later named the bay where he had anchored "Murderer's bay".

The Maoris were left in peace for the next hundred years until the British explorer Captain James Cook arrived in the 18th century. Cook's group had their misfortunes too - Maori warriors killed and ate nine members of the ship's crew. New Zealand could just as easily have become a French colony - by coincidence, a French ship was exploring the area at the same time although neither ship sighted the other.

From the late 1790s onwards, the north coast of the North Island became a busy place, as traders, whaling ships and missionaries established settlements there. The settlers traded weapons with the Maoris - often trading muskets for fruit or pigs. This led to the tribes fighting among themselves - a bloody period in New Zealand's history that has become known as the "Musket Wars".

The British signed a treaty to colonize the islands in February, 1840 - the Treaty of Waitangi. While most Maoris were agreeable to this, not every tribe was amenable and this led to more fighting - a period known as the New Zealand Wars. One skirmish was triggered off by the Maoris repeatedly cutting down the ceremonial British flagpole in the settlement at Kororareka.

The following year New Zealand officially became a British colony and the New Zealand Constitution Act was established in 1852. The islands saw a further increase in immigrants, not only from the UK, but from other parts of Europe and the US as well. And the late 19th century also saw the beginning of immigration from China, with men arriving to work in the gold mines.

During the 1890s, New Zealand's economy, which had previously relied mainly on trading and wool, was boosted by the increased export of frozen meat to Britain. The invention of refrigeration suddenly made it possible to keep meat cold for the duration of the long sea crossing - New Zealand would remain a key player in the refrigerated meat business until the 1970s.

New Zealand declared independence from the UK in 1907, although the country remained a part of the British Empire and New Zealanders fought alongside the British in both world wars. A period of cooperation with the United States led to the signing of the ANZUS treaty in 1951, guaranteeing that New Zealand, Australia and America would assist each other if any of the countries were to be invaded.

Today, New Zealand is an independent nation within the British Commonwealth and still retains strong bonds with Britain. The British Union Jack appears on the country's flag and an image of the Queen can still be seen on some banknotes. People from all over the world visit this remote nation to experience its history and a taste of its unique culture.

How To Make Money Renting Out Your Spare Room To Tourists

Many people have to strive with a low salary and a lot of bills to pay, but many people also don't know that if they live in a house with a spare bedroom they can get much more money than they could earn by having a roommate. A good way to maximize the money from subletting a spare room is to rent it out to tourists. Tourists pay a price per night which is higher than what a roommate pays. Also, tourists stay for a very limited time, and therefore it is not necessary to sign a contract that binds a renter to the property. However, there are some things a landlord should be aware before renting out a room to a tourist.

There are a few websites that allow everyone to post a free profile of a spare room and give the access to the profiles of other people looking for a place for their holidays. These websites allow posting a completely free home or tenant profile without time limit either for long or for short term, making it possible to advertise spare rooms that landlords wish to rent to guests or tourists providing overnight prices per season.

A very interesting feature of private holiday room websites (PHRW) is that guests can be able to know who exactly lives in the house and what kind of people the landlords are looking for. Thus, if for instance you are in your thirties like me and wish to deal with people who are your age and have your same life-style, you can spell it out in your profile.

Another feature of PHRW is a very easy booking calendar from which landlords can manage reservations on-line. Guests or tourists don't even need to contact each others directly. Guests just have to request a reservation, which automatically generates an option for the landlord to accept or refuse such request within 48 hours. As a warrant, guests have to pay a reservation fee which usually is around 5 dollars (or 5 pound sterlings) using a Paypal account. If the landlord refuses a reservation request, the reservation fee will be refunded automatically into the guests' Paypal account and the reservation is then registered as failed. If otherwise the landlord accepts a reservation request, guests will be allowed to continue the reservation process by paying the reservation deposit directly to the landlord-by choosing from several different payment methods. This process has the advantage of eliminating any language barrier between guests and landlord. After the reservation is processed, it will be possible for the guests to leave a feedback about the landlord and the property. On the other hand, even the landlord can leave a feedback to his guests, which will be connected to the guests' username. Still, guests and landlords can freely send instant messages to each others at any time, in order to make sure every problem is resolved.

Renting a spare room to tourists, however, requires making some important consideration. First of all, an independent door that connects the room to the outside would be very useful, and would permit the landlord to lock the door that connects to the rest of the house. An en suite bathroom would avoid many other problems too. However, if your guests would have to step in your "living space" of the house, it is recommended that everything valuable would be put in a secure place, at least for as long as your guests will be staying in your property. Also, access to the kitchen should be subject to some rules, which would include cleaning and re-racking pottery. Finally, it would return tremendously useful to place a hidden camera in some key areas of the house, which will give you indisputable proofs in case you will be missing something in your property.

Luxury Vacations - Helping You Get Your Fix Of Glitz And Glamour

To many, the idea of a luxury vacation can provoke a mixture of awe and fear: after all, until recently, "luxury" was an idea that only the rich and famous were allowed to enjoy. However, as the travel industry explodes and more people are keen to take vacations to exotic and exciting destinations, the "luxury hotel break" has gained new meaning and revived momentum among travelers for the finer things in life.

In fact, treating yourself to a luxury break is no longer considered an extravagance but rather a welcome antidote to backpacking - especially among older travelers who have spent one too many nights in grubby hostels with just the basic essentials, and who can now afford to splash out a bit when booking travel accommodation.

Many people comment on return from their travels that they may need a "vacation to recover from their vacation". That's because traveling, despite all its pleasures, can be a hairy business - what with communication issues (if you're in a non-English speaking country), making sure your belongings are safe and trying to make the most of the time you have left to sightsee. Luxury hotels can really take the stressful edge off your vacation as you'll have everything you need right on your doorstep. Laundry services and daily housekeeping will take care of the basics, while the opportunity to be served three-course meals in the comfort of your hotel suite means you won't have to trawl the streets to look for somewhere to eat.

What's more, luxury hotels are infamous for offering their guests a variety of ways with which to unwind. Most luxury hotels today come with their own spa for which outsiders have to pay, while guests often receive complimentary treatments. A soothing massage, for instance, could be the ideal way to relax after a hectic day's activities.

What's more, many luxury hotels are situated near or host their own first-class golf courses; so if you're hoping to enjoy a peaceful golf vacation, staying at a luxury hotel could be your best possible choice if you want to play on the finest greens.

It's true that luxury hotels can cost a lot of money, but enjoying the comforts of a luxury hotel break doesn't have to follow suit. Planning to go backpacking in Europe for a few months this summer? Scrimp and save by staying in youth hostels during your trip so that at the end of your vacation, you'll be able to afford a few nights at a sumptuous luxury hotel in a cosmopolitan city like London or Paris.

Alternatively, if you simply want to experience the tranquility that staying in a luxury hotel offers, you don't have to travel far. Just book a weekend in a luxury hotel near you and indulge in the pure pleasure it will bestow.

Couples Destination

Taking a vacation together is one way that many couples express their love for one another. If you want to plan a romantic vacation for two, there are many options for you to choose from. Cruises, camping trips, historic cities, and ski lodges are all wonderful places for you to spend your vacation together. Many couples enjoy going to tropical locations in order to reconnect and enjoy the beaches and the nightlife. If you have children, then vacationing alone is even more important. While you may miss your children, you will find the time you spend together to be priceless.

Before booking your vacation, take some time to figure out where you want to go. With so many options, you are not limited to much except your imagination. Plan your trip together to make your vacation even more special. You may want to return to a romantic place you've both been to before, or you may want to find a new place. Research online or visit your travel agent who will be able to give you some suggestions. After deciding where you want to go, you need to decide how long you want to stay. Most people spend a week when on vacation with their spouse or significant other.

Deciding which activities you want to participate in once you arrive is also something you should do together. Taking long walks, spending the day at the beach, or shopping are just some of the many activities you will want to do. Other activities include hiking, sightseeing, napping, and eating in new restaurants. When on vacation, you can do whatever you like. Couples who take vacations together are better able to stay connected with each other. You will enjoy not having to worry about work and other obligations when you are away. Make sure you don't bring work related items with you so you can have a great time.

Couples vacations can occur even if your anniversary isn't coming up. Many couples who enjoy spending time together want to go on vacations as often as possible in order to spend even more time with each other. Planning a trip together is yet another way that some couples enjoy spending their time. When you want to plan a trip with your spouse or partner, take the time to research different places together. This will allow both of you to find a place that satisfies your needs.

While some couples prefer to vacation with other couples, some do not. Depending on where you are planning to go while on vacation, you may want to invite another couple along. When taking a cruise, however, you may meet other couples on the boat who you will want to spend some time with. Keep in mind that you should find time to be alone together so you can enjoy each other's company without having to be bothered. You hire to property in this city. Couple vacations can be a great way to relax and reconnect with those you love.

Paramount Places - Self Catering Holiday Packages Increase in Popularity

Self-catering accommodations normally include some type of binding rental agreement and contract, this legal document specifies dates, payment terms, and restrictions, as well as any other pertinent information that can potentially be legally enforced upon the participants. These rentals units can be of a variety of types such as flats and apartments, houses, chalets, villas, bungalows, and cottages. Most importantly, these are vacation or holiday packages planned in advance that represent greater affordability and increased independence for the guests. While a self-catering rental unit does appear as a home away from home, each being completely furnished, they traditionally are without any meals provided. This is especially true at holiday camps and villages; camping; towed and static caravans. Again, self-catering holidays do not offer you any meal plans included in the price of your holiday; such as inclusive breakfasts, lunches, dinners or drinks. The advantage of a self-catering holiday over that of a half-board (breakfast included) or all-inclusive (all meals and drinks included) holiday, as well as being much cheaper in price, is that you have the flexibility to choose when you want to eat and more importantly, what you want to eat.

Self-catering facilities can vary enormously. In the up-scale market villas will have dishwashers, TVs with satellite channels and good quality furniture. More basic accommodations may mean that you have very simple cooking facilities and the furniture may not be very grand. Self-catering accommodations give you the freedom to plan your day as you wish and to enjoy the holiday of your choice - whether you prefer to explore historical attractions, go walking, bike riding, play golf, or go shopping, in a large city store or a craft shop in a small village, you have the freedom to indulge your own personal interests. A self-catering holiday offers freedom and fantastic value for the money. It is also the ideal way to get to know any place at your own space, to discover its natural beauty, meet friendly people and generally feel at home, whilst enjoying independence and the ability to come and go as you please.

Many families with babies and young children choose a self-catering holiday for the flexibility and because it is a much cheaper option than staying in a hotel. With a family, self-catering makes sense because it gives you the flexibility and the space to fit in with your children's routines and have more privacy than if you were staying in a hotel. Parents with small children can find a washing machine and a dishwasher to be a great help, if not essential, in a cottage or self-catering apartment. Groups of cottages with play facilities are great, as they provide toddler entertainment on-site and there are likely to be other families around each willing to keep an eye out for the children. More luxurious and up-scale market self-catering holiday firms offer little extras which can make your life much easier when turning up at your destination. For example, a "welcome pack" of groceries and a bottle of wine, one for each unit, so that you do not have to rush out to the supermarket as soon as you arrive.

Self-catering can be far less expensive and offers greater flexibility and freedom. And your children may warmly welcome the odd 'home' cooked meal, especially in countries where local cuisine differs substantially from the meals to which your children are accustomed. It is also ideal for the couple, who want to be left alone to enjoy their holiday together, as they do not have to fit in with restaurant meal times or worry about disturbing other guests. In fact, self catering holiday rental units suit just about everyone and every budget.

Planning Your Golf Vacation Package For Orlando

The game of golf seems to be most celebrated in Orlando and the surrounding areas of Florida. With all the tourism that visits this sunshine state, it stands to reason that there are plenty of golf courses in the area. There are 24 public, private and semi-private courses in the city limits of Orlando alone, but when you add in the surrounding areas of Seminole County and Kissimmee, the number goes to more than 50.

There are more than 30 PGA golfers that live in and around the area, so Orlando must be doing something right. Many of the courses there are the locations for some of the yearly PGA events. The Arnold Palmer Invitational is held every year in March at the Bay Hill Golf Club and Lodge.

If you are looking to plan an entire golf vacation package or if you just want to play a few rounds while you are on a family vacation, Orlando has plenty to offer. To some vacationers, the cost is irrelevant; however to most of us, some of the courses will be well above our travel budget. It is possible to find prices in the range of $30-$60 for 18 holes at some of the semi private and public clubs if you know when and where to look. There are websites and e-mail listings that you can go on that will let you know of last-minute openings at all of the courses in the Orlando area.

As soon as you know that you will be traveling to Orlando, you should start contacting the golf courses that you are interested in and find out how far in advance you need to make your tee times. Also ask if they require caddie services and see if they have any package deals for your trip.

An Orlando golf vacation package will typically include a certain number of nights in a hotel room or a suite and include a set number of rounds of golf all for one price.

These special package deals can be found all over the internet. You can also work with a travel agent as they will have access to a lot of great deals for you. It isn't out of the ordinary to find golf packages that average about $100-$150 per day for a hotel room and 18 rounds of golf.

The packages can usually be tailored to fit any desire. You could choose to stay 4 days at one resort and have 4 tee times set up, one for each day of your stay. Each of these tee times could be set up at a different course in order to experience a variety of golf that Orlando offers.

Most of the courses also offer additional amenities such as golf lessons, day spas and 5 star restaurants. Some of these additional offerings can be added into your package deal along with rental cars too.

Whenever you hear anyone talk about taking a golf vacation in Orlando, your first thought may be that it sounds expensive. But, when you hear that you can easily stay in a nice resort's suite and play a round of golf at one of the premier courses for around $100 a day, you would have to agree that it would be foolish not to look into Orlando.

You can find incredible golf vacation packages and travel tips at http://www.247travelguides.com If you need to work on your golf game first, you can find online golf tips at http://www.bettergolf4u.com and don't forget to sign up for there free golf tips newsletter to receive a few great bonus items.
